Founded 1933 as Semipalatinsk Geological Survey Institute. Transferred to Almaty, became Kazakh Mining and Smelting Institute 1934. Became Kazakh Polytechnical Institute 1960. Tranformed into Kazakh National Technical University 1994. Acquired present title 1999. Acquired present status 2001.
