University of Trieste
Founded 1877 on private initiative as College of Commerce. Transformed by Italian Government into Institute of Economics and Commerce 1920, awarded university status 1924, but not established unitl 1945. Faculty of Humanities and Philosophy created 1943 on the intiative of the academic staff and subsequently granted formal recognition. A state institution enjoying administrative and didactic autonomy.
