University of Tehran is Iran's leading modern university. Some parts of the university were established at the time of Amirkabir, the then Prime Minister of the Qajar dynasty within the framework of Dar ul-Funun (Polytechnic) School in 1851. As a pioneer in higher education, University of Tehran was officially ratified by the then Iranian Parliament in 1934.
