Founded 1972 as Gesamthochschule, incorporating College of Education, founded 1958 and College of Philosophy and Theology, established 1924 and tracing its origins to the Collegium Willibaldinum, founded 1564. Became University 1980. An autonomous institution financially supported by the State of Bavaria 80% and the seven Bavarian Dioceses (20%).
