Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU)
Founded 1477 by the Archbishop of Mainz. Closed 1816 although the Faculty of Catholic Theology continued as a seminary. Re-established 1946. An autonomous institution financially supported by the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, and under the jurisdiction of its Ministry of Education, Science and Continuing Education.
