University of Caen-Normandie (Unicaen)
Founded 1970 under the 1968 law reforming higher education and replacing former Université de Caen, founded 1432 by Henry VI of England and granted Papal recognition 1437. The university was suppressed by the Revolution. Reconstituted 1896. A State institution enjoying academic and financial autonomy, operating under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Education and financed by the State.
