Bordeaux I University
Founded 1970 under the 1968 law reforming higher education as one of the four Universities replacing the former Université de Bordeaux - founded 1441 by Papal Bull with Faculties of Theology, Canon Law, Civil Law, Medicine, and Arts. The University was suppressed by the Revolution and replaced by Faculties of Theology, Letters, and Science of the Université de France. Reconstituted as university 1896. A State institution enjoying academic and financial autonomy, operating under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Education and financed by the State.
