Gallaudet University
Founded 1864 as Kendall School and was an institution for deaf and blind children until 1865 when the blind students were transferred to the Maryland School for the Blind. Became Gallaudet College 1954, and acquired present title 1986. A private institution for deaf and hard of hearing students.
