National University of San Marcos (UNMSM)
Founded 1551 by Royal Decree and reorganized by Papal Bull 1571. Closed at the time of the establishment of the Republic, reinaugurated 1861. Became an autonomous Institution 1874, reorganized 1946 and 1969. Receives financial assistance from the State.
