University of Debrecen (DE)
Founded 1912 as Royal Hungarian University of Debrecen, renamed Count István Tisza University, University of Debrecen and Kossuth Lajos University, opened 1914-15 with Faculties of Law, Arts and Humanities, Language and History and Reformed Theology. Faculties of Medicine and Science established 1918 and 1949. Faculty of Law suspended by Government decree 1949 and reorganized 1996 and Faculty of Theology separated from the University 1950 (as Debrecen Academy of Reformed Theology). Faculty of Medicine reorganized separately as Medical University of Debrecen and Faculties of Arts and Humanities and Natural Sciences reorganized as Kossuth Lajos University Debrecen 1952. Due to changes in the Hungarian higher education system, universities of Debrecen (Debrecen University of Medicine, Debrecen Agricultural University, Kossuth Lajos University Debrecen) and Hajdúböszörményi Wargha István College of Education merged and acquired present status and title 2000 as University of Debrecen.
