University of Western Brittany, Brest (UBO)
Founded 1970 under the 1968 law reforming higher education as one of two Universities replacing the former Université de Rennes, established in 1461 as University of Nantes with Colleges and Faculties in Nantes and Rennes, suppressed by the Revolution, reconstituted 1896. A State Institution enjoying academic and financial autonomy, operating under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Education and financed by the State.
