Founded 1960, incorporating the Institut agronomique du Rwanda-Urundi, previously Faculty of Agriculture of the Université officielle du Congo Belge founded 1958 and the Centre universitaire Rumuri founded 1960. Title of Université officielle de Bujumbura adopted 1964, acquired present title 1977. Largely financed by the State.
