Comillas Pontifical University (UPCO)
Founded 1890 by Pope Leo XIII. Acquired present status 1901. The administrative and academic direction of the institution is entrusted to the Society of Jesus. Reorganized 1935. Transferred from Santander to Madrid 1960. The degrees and diplomas of the institution are recognized by the State which, under the 1946 convention with the Vatican, also provides some financial support.
