Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (UPJŠ)
Founded 1959, from the Faculty of Medicine in Košice (established in 1948 as part of Komenius University, Bratislava) and of Faculty of Arts in Prešov, replacing Universitas Cassoviensis founded 1657. Closed during World War I. Faculties in Prešov established as separate University 1997.
