University Dunărea de Jos of Galaţi
Founded 1951 as Naval and Mechanical Engineering Institute. Reorganized 1953 when the Institute of Fish Breeding and Fishing Technology located in the city of Constanţa merged with the Naval Institute of Galaţi as Technical Institute of Galaţi. Became Polytechnical Institute of Galaţi 1957. Acquired present status 1974 when the Polytechnical Institute and the College of Education merged, and present title 1989, named after the historical name of the area around the City of Galaţi. A State Institution responsible to the Ministry of Education. Also branch in Brăila.
