Founded 1994 by the merging of six former independent colleges in Bergen and was known as Høgskolen i Bergen (Bergen University College). Acquired current title in 2017 after merger with Sogn og Fjordane University College (Høgskulen i Sogn og Fjordane) and Stord/Haugesund University College (Høgskolen Stord / Haugesund).
